The Party

Aeris

Born near Hollin, Aeris lived at the Hollin orphanage and worked as an apprentice before he was pressed into service for Captain Burns' expedition to Hilde.

Aeris is a wizard dedicated to science, which he's advancing with knowledge and equipment he finds in his travels. But there are hints of another Aeris: his alliance with the lich Ishild, his revenge killing for the abomination Haas, and the conspicuous, unexplained burlap bag he carries. Aeris often argues for a macabre vision of human progress, and is darkly quotable.

Aeris drove off the spirits protecting the meteor Noreste in the hell-town Bruegel, rescued the fairy Ivy from the lich Ishild, and put down the fairy usurper Inkling with Ord Redding. Besides the burlap bag, some items he carries include a shirt of Heroic Effort, taken from the hell-town Bruegel; and the Raven House Origami Armor and Laurel Crown, taken from Inkling.

Beowolf

Born on Hilde, Beowolf was orphaned when Highpyre was burned, and was raised by adoptive parents in Hollin. He joined the party to investigate Lofton Castle with Gregor the naturalist.

Beowolf harbors the belief that he is nobility of the Inkeri, Hilde's barbarians. He revisited Hilde once with Captains Burns' mission to find the lost Admiralty explorer Ammiral, and returned a second time to press his case to Inkeri leadership. Betrayed during the second visit by an Inkeri rival, Leutwin, Beowolf is back in Hollin preparing for a third visit.

Beowolf's family weapon store in Hollin, The Winter Wolf, refused to pay protection to the Hobnail street gang and was recently burned. Afterwards, the party found Beowolf's stepparents in the divine prison Narsasha, and rescued them by defeating the prison guardian Katamayan and Lahar, a personification of death.

As the party's raging barbarian, Beowolf has defeated many opponents, and killed Alaric Volker in single combat. Among other items, he carries the Wolf Helmet, made from the pelt of Muninn, patriarch of Hilde's wolves; and a halberd of Threatening Reach, taken from the Dowager survivors' camp.

Here is the original description of Beowolf given by his stepfather Carric, after the style of Conan the Barbarian's chronicler, the Wizard of the Mound. Here is Beowolf's description of his stepmother, Pale Moon.

Kasskar

Kasskar was born to a merchant family in Hollin, and joined the party to investigate Lofton Castle with Gregor the naturalist. He is the party's flanker and lockpick, and as a rogue, works to blend in with the crowd. While Good, he's a little greedy and welcomes shady opportunities.

As a self-described enforcer, Kasskar might have been a natural ally to the Hobnail street gang, but the Hobnails killed Kasskar's family as part of a protection racket gone awry. Later, Hobnails assassinated Kasskar's boxer Godwin while protecting their turf. Since then, each side has escalated the conflict, with Kasskar executing the Hobnails enforcer Auld, and the Hobnails burning the Winter Wolf, Beowolf's family business.

Kasskar killed Muninn, the patriarch of Hollin's wolves; and killed a personification of death, Lahar, using the Kirsi assassination spell Word Without Warning. Among other items, Kasskar carries a Ring of Glamour, given to him by the abomination Haas, and a chipped-stone dagger taken from Tolland Wood trolls.

Here is Kasskar's original background.

Ord Redding

Ord Redding is a foreign runepriest who came to Hollin looking for Prosper. He arrived soon after the Volker brothers kidnapped Prosper and joined the party to search for him. The Witches' Chorus described Prosper as a heretic, exile, and conspiracy theorist, but the party does not know his full background or larger goals.

Ord led the party to the fairy home Renhannes seeking help in finding Prosper. He defeated the necaratu Damadara in single combat under Shear Pass, and put down the fairy usurper Inkling with Aeris. Among other items, he carries the sword Isra, taken from a Hereward portal guardian; and the Asmund House Shield, taken from Mound Clan trolls.

Party Alumni

Jennish Cole

Jennish came to Hollin with his brother and sister after their father died, and hopes to open an artifact shop.

He joined the party to investigate Lofton Castle with Gregor the naturalist, helped steal a body from Meade Hospital for Herndon the anatomist, and sailed for Hilde with Captains Burns and Krill. He carries a rod with the power Cunning of the Insane, taken from the Dowager survivors' camp and skillfully carved with a depiction of life there.

Mikal

Mikal is a shy, dishevelled fourteen-year-old who sailed for Hilde as a stowaway on the Hedgepeth. He helped capture the Blackwells ship Durst, rescue the Dowager survivors, and put down the alleged witch Captain Krill.

Prosper

Prosper was a ragged twenty-one-year-old who suddenly appeared in the icy waters off Hilde, where the party found him disoriented and yelling for help. Not sure how he got there, Prosper believed that he was sent by a Guilty God to atone for the god's sins.

Prosper was kidnapped by necromancers, the Volker brothers, while hunting them in Meade Hospital. The party enlisted the help of fairies, who told them that Prosper was the reincarnation of the demigod Huldremose and that he was in Hollin's City of the Dead. There, the party found that the Volkers had turned Prosper into an abomination and were forced to kill him. A second Prosper, another reincarnation of Huldremose, appeared and took Prosper's body into the west.

Here are Prosper's original background notes. Here is the fairy king's history of Hollin that describes the ancient Huldremose/Prosper's origin.
